CLAY BOZZETTO: THREE PUTTI GROUPED AROUND AN ANVIL ON A BANK OF CLOUDS Height: 35 cm. Old ink inscription with monogram and date "J.B.P/1779" on the base. The sculptor worked in Bologna, Venice, Tyrol and Munich. His most famous teacher was probably Giuseppe Mazza. At the end of his life, he maintained a workshop in Heiligenkreuz, which was donated by the monastery and from which the famous sculptor Georg Raphael Donner emerged. The group of figures is modeled in a highly qualitative manner, the figures are stacked on top of each other over a mountain of clouds moving upwards, in which richly folded fabric falls down on the verso, accompanied by rose tendrils. The figures in a moving pose. One of the putti with a hammer. The boy sitting above an anvil is holding up a bell with both hands, which suggests that the bozzetto was intended as a monument to the allegory of the blacksmith's art. The monogram could refer to the French sculptor Jean Baptiste Pigalle (1714-1785, Paris), whose works, however, appear somewhat calmer in a classicist sense. In good condition, one index finger missing. Remainder.
