Höfischer Empire-Tischaufsatz
Height: 25 cm. Top diameter: 33.5 cm. Foot diameter: 36.5 cm. Probably Russia, around 1820. In gilt and bronze, in the form of a round platter supported by antique female figures in rare Pieta-dura marble. The figurines stand with arms folded over on high, leaf-covered column stumps, again supported by projections of the bronzed base plate, above lion's paw feet. The stone slab is veined brown-beige-dark brown, surrounded by a gilded profile border with laurel branches on small rosettes. Style and design influenced by the French Empire; however, the plinth columns make reference to the Eastern cultures that influenced Russian art. A.R.
