Pair of Satsuma stoneware vases. Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912). Partially gilded decoration animated with figures and tengu positioned in front of screens and in a landscape. Height Height : 30 cm Diameter: 14.5 cm Base diameter: 10 cm Tengu originally took the form of birds of prey, and are traditionally depicted with both human and avian characteristics.
