Fannière Frères was founded in 1839 by François-Auguste and his brother François-Joseph-Louis Fannière, nephews and students of the silversmith Fauconnier. Their first steps as sculptors and designers were in collaboration with the leading Paris silversmiths of the time, such as Wiese, Froment-Meurice and Christofle, before making a name for themselves in 1862. In 1900, the company was taken over by François-Joseph-Louis Fannière's son, then by Fernand Poisson. Only a small part of their work remains.
