School of Sebastiano Conca (Gaeta, 1680 - Naples, 1764). Allegory of Prudence and Fortitude, frame. Oil on canvas. cm62x74. Attached expertise of Prof. Maurizio Marini. The painting constitutes a school replica of the one located in New York at the Central Picture Gallery, conceived as a pendant to the Allegory of Justice and Temperance Triumphant over Lies also preserved at the same museum. Evidently these Allegories, executed around 1740, were very successful at the time, since several replicas are remembered: of Justice and Temperance at least six replicas are known today, not autograph but from the school, while of Prudence and Fortitude only two are known, again to be returned to the school of Conca, to which the one under consideration should be added.
