Description

Ferrara school of the 17th century. Delivery of keys to an emperor, with frame. Oil on canvas. cm67x93. The painting is influenced by the manner of Giuseppe Caletti (Cremona, c. 1600 - Ferrara, c. 1660), an undisputed protagonist of the Ferrara school of the mid-17th century, known for a very discontinuous and differentiated artistic production closely linked to his activity as a forger and engraver. A peregrine artist in the territories of northern Italy, he used to change his style and language abruptly according to the demands of the market. His role models were in fact Dosso Dossi, Guercino, and Pietro della Vecchia, which led him to give birth to an anticlassical style.
