CAMPENON (Vincent). Essais de mémoires, ou Lettres sur la vie, le caractère et les écrits de J.-F. Ducis, addressed to M. Odogharty de La Tour. Paris, Nepveu, 1824. In-8, eggplant long-grained morocco, spine with ornate faux-nerfs, framed with cold garland, simple gilt fillet and garland with fleurs-de-lis in spandrels on the boards, arms in the center, gilt edges, interior lace, endpapers lined with pink tabis (Simier rel. du Roi). Engraved frontispiece. Interesting literary portrait of Jean-François Ducis (1733-1817), very much forgotten today, but who enjoyed a certain renown at the end of the 18th century; he was also secretary to the Comte de Provence before the Revolution. A magnificent copy bound by Simier with the arms of LOUIS XVIII. Due to the date of the work, it is difficult to specify whether the copy belonged to Louis XVIII or Charles X, but it is reasonable to lean towards Louis XVIII due to the special ties that united Ducis to this prince.
