Porcelain bread plate, the side with polychrome decoration of garlands of flowers and laurel leaves on a gilded ground, monogrammed in the center FM for Félix Meleniewski (1846-1908) under a marquis crown. Engraved on the reverse with FM6 (Diam.: 16.5 cm) (slight wear to gilding). Cf. Sale June 30, 2018, Aisne Enchères Soissons. Same provenance for a silver menagère by Charvieux in Paris and a silver and cut-crystal travel set by Garnesson in Paris that belonged to Marie de Blonay (1877-1954), daughter of Ernestine Rzewuska (1846-1908) and Félix Meleniewski (1846-1908). Ernestine Rzewuska was the niece of Madame Hanska, Balzac's second wife. A Polish aristocratic family, established in Russia and related to some of the most illustrious families in Polish history, such as the Poniatowskis. Félix Stanislas Kopacz de Meleniewski was a Commander of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem and the Sovereign Order of Malta, an officer in the Imperial Russian Army, a deputy in the assembly of the nobility of Kieff, an honorary justice of the peace at the court of Gaïssin and an advisor to the Ministry of the Interior in Kieff.
