LYDIS (Mariette) - MONTHERLANT (Henry de). Le Chant des Amazones. Paris : Govone, 1931. - In-4, 278 x 223: 95 pp, (3 ff. last 2 blank), printed cover. Jansenist brown morocco, ribbed spine, dark green morocco lining edged with three gilt fillets, brown moiré silk endpapers, double endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine preserved, edged slipcase (Semet et Plumelle). Partly first edition, with 5 poems or essays from Les Onze devant la Porte Dorée (1924) and two previously unpublished poems. It is illustrated with 8 original full-page lithographs by Mariette LYDIS (1887-1970). Limited edition of 165 copies. This is ONE OF 10 ON IMPERIAL JAPON (no. 7), including a line suite of the illustrations, the third paper after 1 copy on tinted chine and 4 on old japon. Exemplaire de Jules Exbrayat (1880-1958), president-founder of the Société des Bibliophiles Franco-Suisses, with this autograph signed letter from the artist on the false title: Pour Monsieur Exbrayat, // ami des beaux livres // Mariette Lydis // Paris 1931 A very fine copy in lined binding by Semet et Plumelle, including the color frontispiece, signed by Mariette Lydis, as well as a refused plate on chine collé, signed and dated 1931 by Mariette Lydis, who also indicated "pierre cassée". This lithograph is a variant of the one on page 13. Spine slightly faded. Provenance: Jules Exbrayat, with consignment and bookplate (cat. III, 1962, no. 204).
