FOUJITA (Léonard). Petits Métiers et gagne petit. [Paris: Pierre de Tartas, éditions Rombaldi, 1960]. - In-folio, 373 x 280: 118 pp, (5 FF. last two blank), illustrated cover. In leaves, publisher's blue cloth slipcase. One of the finest works illustrated by Léonard FOUJITA (1886-1968). Prefaced by Maurice Genevoix, the edition includes texts by Albert Fournier accompanied by 22 wood-engraved compositions by Léonard Foujita by Henri Renaud, including one on the title, repeated on the cover, one full-page self-portrait by the artist, 18 in the text and 2 on double-page spreads, all in color except for the gray title. The book ends with a text by Guy Dornand entitled Foujita Parisien de Tokyo. Print run announced at 262 copies. This one, on Arches vellum, is unnumbered but nominative, specially printed for Pierre Barthélémy, and includes this autograph signed letter from the artist: to Mr Pierre Barthelemy // Tributes from the artist // Leonard Foujita The copy has been exceptionally enriched with the following items: - a special suite of color plates on large Arches vellum (without the proofs of the illustrations on pages 25 and 69), - two silk proofs, including that of the second double-page illustration, - color breakdown of two different plates, - the enclosed letter signed by publisher Pierre du Tartas, on company letterhead, indicating the items added to this copy. Wrapper discolored and showing wear to the cloth.
