Eggplant half-maroquin with corners, spine with three large nerfs, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved (René Kieffer). Beautiful and interesting edition illustrated with 134 black and colored compositions by Jean-Louis FORAIN (1851-1931). According to Carteret (IV, p. 123), this edition brings together drawings "that have appeared in various publications". The title and cover are dated 1920, but there is a printed note at the end: "The printing of this work, begun in 1914 and interrupted by the war, was resumed in 1919 and completed in 1921...". Edition of 250 copies. One of 200 on Arches wove paper. A fine copy in a Kieffer binding, with a large original ink drawing by Forain, with an original sketch on the verso, two etchings by the artist, including one for Huysmans' Croquis parisiens, and a color woodcut illustration by Florian after Forain. Spine slightly faded. Light brown spots on cover.
