Dark green half-chagrin, decorated spine, gilt head, untrimmed (contemporary binding). First edition of this anthology of Dalmatian folk songs, published by writer and politician Stjepan Ivicević (1801-1871), to mark the centenary of the death of Andrija Kačić Miošić (1690-1760), the first of the Dalmatian poets to turn to folk poetry, both in content, form and language. The edition, printed in the Croatian city of Zadar, begins with a biography of Kačić Miošić by Stjepan Ivicević, which is considered the best published on this author. The illustration includes two black out-of-text lithographs, the first as a frontispiece, depicting a portrait of Kačić Miošić, and the second depicting a view of Brist, the poet's hometown. Copy in contemporary binding, from the library of Dijon bibliophile Henri Joliet (1822-1918). Hinge of first cover cracked. Some foxing. Provenance: Henri Joliet, with his CBMHI monogram bookplate and motto "Plus penser que dire" ("More thinking than saying").
