RÖMER (Johann Jacob). Genera insectorum Linnæi et Fabricii iconibus illustrata. Vitoduri Helvetorum [Winterthur]: Henrich Steiner, 1789. - In-4, 287 x 230: VIII, 86 pp, (2 ff.), 37 plates. Basane racinée, gilt roulette around the edges of the boards, ornate smooth spine, gilt edges (early 19th century binding). Nissen, 3462. - Brunet, IV, 1352. First edition of this work by Swiss physician and entomologist Joann Jacob Römer (1763-1819), which lists the different insect genera according to the classification of the two famous entomologists Carl von Linné and Johan Christian Fabricius. This is one of the finest entomological works published in Switzerland. It is illustrated with a color title vignette, two black engravings in the text and 37 superb plates of insects and mollusks, 36 of them in color, drawn and engraved by Schellenberg. The first 32 plates are the same as those published in 1776 in Sulzer's Abgekürzte Geschichte der Insecten, also published by Henrich Steiner in Winterthur. Spine and board edges rubbed, some rare spotting, corners dulled. Scattered foxing on text leaves. Provenance: Docteur Maurice Royer, with bookplate.
