Description

PROUST Marcel (1871-1922) L.A.S. to a friend [to Jean-Louis Vaudoyer], Paris, (s.d [first half of October 1918]). 4 pp. in-8. Address, marked "confidential". "I have been sent an issue of Le Crapouillot which causes me a slight annoyance because it contains a really stupid pastiche of me; but which causes me deep joy: You do me the honor and friendship of dedicating wonderful pastiches to me. Gérard de Nerval's in particular is a continuous miracle [...] As for the pastiche that pretends to counterfeit my manner, I am wrong to be indignant about it. It is only the consequence of articles signed Vandérem and others, who, ignoring the composition of my work, seem to be saying that I am making 'memoirs' and writing from memory [...]." Correspondance générale. Published by Robert Proust. Tome IV. Paris: Plon, 1933, p. 79. Christie's sale, November 6, 2013, lot 122.
