ANDO HIDETAKE: A SET OF EIGHT MINO CERAMIC DISHES ANDO HIDETAKE: A SET OF EIGHT MINO CERAMIC DISHES By Ando Hidetake, signed Ando Hidetake with kakihan Japan, late 20 th century Each with shallow rounded sides rising from a short foot to a broad everted rim, overall covered in a transparent glaze exposing the gray clay underneath, the show side divided by a wavy gold-lacquer line separating a creamy-glazed section from a black-glazed section and decorated with geometric patterns. The majority signed ANDO HIDETAKE to the base, while others bear the artist’s kakihan. DIAMETER each 25.4 cm Condition: Excellent condition. Ando Hidetake (born 1938) was the grandson of a humble ceramicist who founded the Senzan kilns in Inoue, Nokura during the Meiji period. He carried on the family tradition, handed down from his father, and his genius has been widely recognized. Among the many awards and titles bestowed on Hidetake, he was granted the recognition of Important Prefectural Cultural Property, Living National Treasure, and was selected for numerous exhibitions around the world. His works continue to be exhibited in museums like the Brooklyn Museum and the Newark Museum of Art.
