Very fine edition illustrated with 28 mid-page compositions by François-Louis SCHMIED (1873-1941), wood-engraved in color and printed, like the text, under the direction of his son Théo Schmied. Edition of 172 copies signed by François-Louis Schmied at the justification. This is one of 155 on Madagascar. A very well preserved copy, despite some rare spotting and traces of wetness on the slipcase covers.

Leaves, filled cover, publisher's folder and slipcase. Edition of Prométhée enchaîné in the translation by Paul Mazon, illustrated with 39 compositions by François-Louis SCHMIED (1873-1941) woodcut by his son Théo, including the mark of the Société des Médecins bibliophiles at the head, 17 full-page figures, 20 in the text and the ornament on page 111. This was the last work by François-Louis Schmied, who died on January 19, 1941. The edition will be printed in the spring of this year. Limited edition of 150 copies on Arches wove paper. This one bears the number 101, which does not correspond to what is indicated in the justification where it is written that only the first 100 were numbered in Arabic numerals. It was specially printed for Dr. C. Lepoutre. A separate copy, in a publisher's cardboard folder, with an ORIGINAL GOUACHE signed by François Louis Schmied for the illustration on page 60, and two rare suites of illustrations on japon, one in color, signed by Théo Schmied on the first engraving, and the other in black, unsigned. Some proofs are on japon nacré. A very well preserved copy. Provenance : Doctor C. Lepoutre, with ex-libris and mention in the justification.
