Barend Cornelis Koekkoek (1803 Middelburg - 1862 Kleve) attr; Resting peasants and shepherds in a wide, tree-lined evening landscape A deep, atmospheric, subtly painted view of a gentle, hilly landscape with farmsteads and a church village. Trained at the Amsterdam Academy of Art, the painter moved to Kleve in 1834, where he founded his own academy in 1841, from which the Kleve Romantic movement emerged. Koekkoek was honored with numerous awards from 1829 onwards and is considered one of the most important and successful landscape painters of the 19th century of international renown.
