LOUIS XV - 9 DENIERS DES COLONIES FRANCOISES pour l'AMERIQUE : Louisiane Acadie, Canada - rare coinage (*) SIT , NOMEN - DOMINI - BENEDICTUM 2 L interlaced under the crown of FRANCE. Reverse: Colonies Françoises 1722 H (struck by the La Rochelle workshop). 26 mm - 6.68 gr - TTB (*) Manufactured following the edict of the Cour des Monnaies of July 8, 1721 and by the Conseil Supérieur de Québec of July 17, 1723. In 1722, the Compagnie des Indes sent 534,000 coins to Canada, which the colonists refused to use. On September 26, 1726, 525,820 pieces were returned to the Company's headquarters in La Rochelle. These coins were subsequently shipped to Louisiana at the legal tender rate of 6 deniers.
