J.J.DUCEL & FILS in Paris Large cast-iron Warwick vase, 19th century Decorated with antique-style figures, lion heads and acanthus leaves. Handles in the form of a vine vine. Richly decorated with antique-style figures, lion heads and acanthus leaves. Frieze of vine leaves and bunches of grapes. H. 69 L. 120 cm The Warwick vase is an enormous Roman marble vase decorated with Bacchic motifs, discovered in the ruins of the villa of the Emperor Hadrian. villa of the Emperor Hadrian around 1771 by Gavin Hamilton, a Scottish painter and antiquarian in Rome. The object was subsequently restored and sold in 1878 to Georges Greville, second Earl of Warwick, who placed it on a lawn at his castle, before housing it in a purpose-built greenhouse. In 1977, it was purchased by the Burell Collection in Glasgow.
