Embroidered hanging, Italy, 17th century, crimson silk velvet applied with silk embroidery polychrome silk embroidery and metallic thread decorated with St. John the Baptist as a child in the center of a leafy cartouche surmounted by a crown supported by two loves. Border decorated with foliage, quilted and lined, (some wear and restoration). 255 x 208 cm Two tapestries by the same workshop and from the same period are in the Wallace Collection, London (inv. F516 and F517), see Wallace Collection catalog, T. III, p. 1512 to 1514.
