Pair of ducks; China, Republic period, c. 1920. Celadon type glazed porcelain partially glazed. They have incised marks on the base "Wu Guoxing Zao". Measurements: 29,5 x 11,5 x 14 cm (x2). Set of jade green glazed porcelain ducks. The piece follows the celadon models, very popular in Asia, as it allows to obtain the color of jade, the sacred stone. Chinese craftsmen reproduced the ancient bronzes, so they abandoned the ocher color for a creamy green that magnifies their masterpieces, it is the famous color now associated with the name celadon. The golden age of celadon lasted from the 11th to the 14th century in China during the Song and Yuan dynasties, the former ruling China from 960 to 1279.

Finely potted, the interior carved with scrolling vines issuing lotus, chrysanthemums, and peaches, and covered overall in a pale celadon glaze pooling in the recesses. Provenance: U.S. private collection. Condition: Good condition with minor wear, few minuscule chips to the upper rim and base, and firing flaws including dark spots, firing cracks, uneven glazing, and kiln grit.
