Grand plat d'après Iznik, par Léon Parvillée

France, circa 1875-80 In glazed ceramic with slight relief and white background. The Iznik-inspired design features a large bouquet emerging from a pomegranate flower. Peonies, carnations, hyacinths and irises stand out. Foamy wave motifs with serrated leaves decorate the rim. Signature in blue ink on the back, monogram, and n°239. Condition: Very good. D. 53 cm After several trips to Turkey, Léon Parvillée (1830-1885) designed the Ottoman pavilion at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1867, collaborating with Eugène Collinot and Adalbert de Beaumont. In 1871, he founded his own ceramics factory on rue Neuve Fontaine Saint-Georges in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. Iznik's influence on the European world did not begin at the end of the 19th century, but it was resurgent at a time when the taste for ornament was focusing on the brightly colored decorations, the abundance of flowers and the layout of Iznik productions.
