Tsakli représentant Bhairava

Tibet, circa 1800 Polychrome pigments on paper. (Slight wear). 15 x 11.5 cm Also known as Heruka, the red-skinned deity is seated on a lotus, holding a melong mirror and an endless bow. Her fiery headdress, set with citipatis heads, and her third eye evoke Bhairava. Tsaklis were small Buddhist miniatures produced in groups and used in Buddhist rituals as initiation cards. Provenance : Former French private collection Public sale, catalogued in the collection as acquired on December 10, 1982 (mention "Kevorkian 10 XII 82" on the back).
