North India, 20th century With melon-ribbed body, in jade inlaid with "kundan" gemstones, decorated with flowers, including bowl, lid and saucer. Dim.: bowl and lid: 6.5 x 6.5 cm / saucer: D. 11.5 cm. This complete gem-set set, with lid and saucer, illustrates the taste for libation bowls popular in Mughal India. In his memoirs, the Mughal emperor Jahangir refers to a crystal bowl with an enameled dish and lid sent as a gift to Shah Abbas I of Iran in 1617. Provenance: This lot is sold as a temporary import.
