* Suzani de Boukhara

Uzbekistan, 19th century Four cotton strips embroidered with polychrome silk threads. The decoration is composed of a floral parterre centered on a rose window, embellished with two ewers and two birds, all encircled by a round ribbon of flowers "Doira gullar nusxasi". Condition: Good condition, some wear. 160 x 109 cm Provenance : Former collection of British costume designer Anthony Powell (1935-2021). This lot is sold as a temporary import. Bukhara suzanis are luxuriant and refined. They combine various floral scrolls such as pomegranates, irises and peonies. Within these compositions, we sometimes find ewers and anthropomorphic elements with protective virtues, symbolizing abundance, prosperity and fertility for the bride and groom.
