Iran, dated Dhu'l-Hijja 1319 AH / AD 1902. Gouache, ink, gold, on thick paper, mounted as an album page, inscribed with 7 lines of writing "shekasteh nasta'liq", dated Dhu'l-Hijja 1319 / 1902. Page size: 42.5 x 30 The text presents the Neshan-e Aqdas (Iranian imperial order) to be delivered to the King of Spain (r.1886-1931), through Arfa' al-Dawla as special envoy to the Spanish court. The Neshan-e Aqdas (Most Sacred Order) was a prestigious Iranian imperial order founded in 1870 by the Shah Qajar of Iran Nassereddin. There were three classes, with two different styles for Iranians (Sardar) and foreigners (Nishan). The order was dissolved with the collapse of the Qajar dynasty.
