Majestueux paon qajar

Iran, 19th century Standing with tail extended and beak open, resting on an octagonal base, in engraved and silver damascened steel, set with turquoise pearls, profusely engraved with cartouches containing seated figures, mounted princes, animals, all on backgrounds of scrolling vines and Arabic inscriptions in kufic and naskh on the base. 79 x 38 cm A comparable example is in the British Museum, London (1912,0716.1). A fine Qajar turquoise-inlaid brass peacock, Persia, 19th Century Inscriptions : fi ayyam al-sultan al-a'zam wa al-khaqan al-akram wa al-malik (misspelled) zaman al-sultan al-'im ... al-sultan al-qadir ... al-'adal ... 'During the time of the greatest sultan and the most generous emperor, the possessor (?) of time, the learned sultan ... the powerful sultan ... the most just ...'. 'During the time of, the Greatest Sultan, and the most Generous emperor, the Possessor (?) of the time, the Learned Sultan ... the Powerful Sultan ... the most Just ...'.
