Coffre de peseur à l'effigie du jeune Naser al-Din shah Qajar

Iran, Qajar Art, 2nd half of the 19th century Rectangular box in painted and lacquered wood, with compartments for weights and scales. The lid features a medallion portrait of a young sovereign, probably Nasser al-Din shah. Inside, the lid is decorated with fine gilded floral scrolls, while the case features flower branches on a red background, and the exteriors are painted with gul wa bulbul in vivid polychrome. The box contains two steel scales with brass trays, ten steel weights with octagonal cross-sections, and steel tongs. Condition: very good, all items present. 5 x 26 x 15 cm A set of portable merchant's weights and scales in a lacquer painted lacquer box, the lid depicting Naser al-Din Shah Qajar Naser al-Din Shah Qajar reigned in Iran from 1848 to 1896. This monarch was the great-grandson of the founder of the Qajar dynasty, Fath Ali Shah. He is seated at a relatively young age, suggesting that the casket was made early in his reign.
