Imitation récente incorporant le nom de Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Battūtī, d’un astrolabe de ce fabricant du deuxième quart du XVIIIe siècle.

Non-functioning astrolabe, very well executed in chased and engraved brass, featuring the mother, the spider (with incorrect projection), five single-sided engraved tympana, the nail, the horse and the alidade. The inscriptions are engraved in hesitant kufic script. D. 270mm. The Maghreb was the scene of considerable activity in the sciences of mathematical astronomy and astrology from the 10th to the 15th century, and interest in traditional astronomy continued until the early 20th century. In particular, the construction of instruments - astrolabes, quadrants and sundials - continued well into the 20th century. A recent imitation incorporating the name Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Battūtī, of an astrolabe by this maker from the second quarter of the 18th century.
