India, probably Deccan, late 19th century Circular, the center with poly-lobed contours, in finely chased brass. In the center, the fairy is depicted playing a stringed instrument, in a camel-back palanquin, her body composed of a tangle of other animals, led by a page, while the simurgh (phoenix) flies above. This scene is surrounded by four friezes of varied floral decoration. D. 48 cm Provenance: This lot is sold as a temporary import. This decoration is directly inspired by a miniature in the Art Institute of Chicago, produced in the Deccan region around 1700 (inv. n°1981.219), reproductions of which were circulated in craftsmen's workshops.
