Indonesia, 19th century A very fine hand-forged "wilah" serpentine blade in multi-layered "pamor" steel, with "Ukiran" handle and carved Tayuman wood guard, the gilded copper guard carved in the shape of a dragon. Wooden scabbard covered with chased metal and decorated with peacocks. Modern red velvet case with the initials P. B. Condition : Good L. 75 cm The Kriss or "kerese" is a prominent sign of social status, almost a cultural phenomenon in Malaysia and Indonesia, a regional symbol of power and identity.
