Detailed history and description of the extension work carried out on the Holy Places of Mecca and Medina, from the time of the first four caliphs to the era of the Ibn Saud dynasty, spanning nearly 14 centuries. Focusing on the achievements of the 1955 extension, the largest ever to be built on the Holy Places, the book reports on the facilities thus provided for pilgrims during the pilgrimage and emphasizes the constant maintenance and development of the sites under the auspices of King Khaled, twenty years after the start of the 1955 work and ten years before the launch of the 1984 extension project under the reign of King Fahd.
