Null Seven-leaf painted canvas screen depicting a lakeside with a few sailboats …
Description

Seven-leaf painted canvas screen depicting a lakeside with a few sailboats on the water, a wooded path animated by characters, a horseman watching over a herd of cows drinking, an openwork balustrade delimiting the landscape on the front. The screen is mounted on a cream-painted wooden frame. The back features a series of fourteen oval lakescapes surrounded by stenciled orange arabesques. French work, circa 1830. Size of a sheet: 170 x 55 cm (restorations and repaints). The decoration on our panel can be compared to the works of Ph. de La Salle, designer and ornamentalist 1723/1804, designer of silk weaving motifs, known for his brilliantly executed floral, bird and arabesque decorations; unfortunately, Ph. de La Salle never appears in the official commissions of the Garde Meuble de la Couronne. Cf. musée des tissus de Lyon.
