Beautiful panel of satin embroidered with oxidized silver thread, predominantly gray, depicting birds in an exotic landscape framed by a geometric design based on ancient themes. This may have been a panel woven for a luxurious fire front. Early 19th century, in a Louis XVI-style gilded wood frame carved with pearls and heart-shaped stripes. Approx. 80 x 65 cm The decoration on our panel may be associated with the works of Philippe de La Salle (1723-1804), an ornamentalist and designer of silk weaving motifs, known for his brilliantly executed floral, bird and arabesque decorations.
