Description

Beautiful panel of satin embroidered with oxidized silver thread, predominantly gray, depicting birds in an exotic landscape framed by a geometric design based on ancient themes. This may have been a panel woven for a luxurious fire front. Early 19th century, in a Louis XVI-style gilded wood frame carved with pearls and heart-shaped stripes. Approx. 80 x 65 cm The decoration on our panel may be associated with the works of Philippe de La Salle (1723-1804), an ornamentalist and designer of silk weaving motifs, known for his brilliantly executed floral, bird and arabesque decorations. Unfortunately, Philippe de La Salle never appeared in the official commissions of the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne. Cf musée des tissus de Lyon.
