Excellent vintage bronze theodolite, complete with wooden base and wood and glass urn. TROUGHTON & SIMMS Ltd. London No. 21063. C. 1920. In excellent condition of all parts and mechanisms. Instrument: 40.0 (45.0) x 20.0 cm. Base with urn: 54 x 41 x 26 cm. [Troughton & Simms was a prestigious British manufacturer of scientific instruments, known for the quality and precision of its products. The firm was founded in 1826, when Edward Troughton partnered with William Simms. Edward Troughton had already been a leading instrument manufacturer since the late 18th century. During its history, Troughton & Simms supplied a variety of high quality instruments for astronomy, navigation and surveying, including theodolites, sextants and telescopes.
