Charles Hunsinger (1823-1893) was one of the great cabinetmakers of the second half of the 19th century, along with Fourdinois, Beurdeley and Wassmus, whose work is linked to the taste for historicism that characterized the period, such as the reconstruction of the Château de Chantilly by the Duc d'Aumale. Specializing in wood and ivory marquetry, Hunsinger is listed as "fabricant de meubles de luxe et de fantaisie" (Almanach du commerce, 1859). From late 1872 to 1883, he joined forces with Wagner and won a silver medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle for "a marquetry library".
