After Jean-Jacques Caffieri (1725-1792), France, 20th century Jean Rotrou (1609-1650) Resting on a flared plinth inscribed "fait par J.J Cafieri 1783" and "J Rotrou" and bearing an oval brass plate MUSEE DE SCULPTURE COMPAREE/ 1904 / C. POUZADOUX, MUSEE MOULDER, TROCADORERO PALACE H.:94 cm (37 in.) A French plaster bust depicting Jean Rotrou (1609-1650), after Jean-Jacques Caffieri (1725-1792), 20th century One of Caffieri's finest busts is of the French poet and tragedian Jean Rotrou (1609-1650). In the case of Rotrou's bust, he worked from a painted portrait. The bust here by Caffieri, with its boldly coiffed hair, bare throat and magisterial coat, seems to echo the sweeping moustaches.
