PAIR OF EMPIRE PERIOD TORCHES Based on a model by Claude Galle (1759-1815) In chased and gilded bronze, the canted shaft ends in claw feet, resting on a circular base encircled by a frieze of water-leaf motifs. H.:26,5 cm (10 ½ in.) Comparative bibliography: V. Drouget, Fontainebleau La Vraie Demeure des Rois, Swan éditeur, 2015, p.260. A pair of Empire gilt and bronze candlesticks, after the model by Claude Galle (1759-1815) Three pairs of comparable torches were delivered by Claude Galle to Fontainebleau in 1804 and 1805 (inv. F626, F674 and F1165C). One of these pairs is now preserved in the Emperor's small bedroom at the Château de Fontainebleau (cfr. V. Drouget, Fontainebleau La Vraie Demeure des Rois, Swan éditeur, 2015, p.260).
