After Pierre Cartellier (1757-1831) and Louis Messidor Lebon Petitot (1794-1862), France, circa 1880-1900 Louis XIV on horseback going into battle Bronze equestrian group Resting on an oval wooden base covered with red velvet Dimensions: 43 x 58 cm (17 x 22 ¾ in.) A bronze equestrian group depicting Louis XIV, after Pierre Cartellier (1757 - 1831) and Louis Messidor Lebon Petitot (1794 - 1862), French, circa 1880-1900 The equestrian group is a reduction of the statue of Louis XIV in front of the Château de Versailles, Place d'Armes. Pierre Cartellier was commissioned to create the sculpture in 1816. After the sculptor's violent death in 1831, his son-in-law Louis-Messidor Petitot completed the commission, and the sculpture was cast by Crozatier and erected in 1836.
