Venice, 14th century Stone carved and decorated with the coat of arms of the city of Venice and the doge Giovanni Dolfin Dimensions:58 x 36 cm (22 ¾ x 14 ¼ in.) Provenance: Hampel Munich sale, September 24, 2015, lot 161 ; Acquired by the current owner. A carved stone decorated with the coat of arms of the city of Venice and the Doge Giovanni Dolfin,Venice, 14th century Doge Giovanni Dolfin (1303-1361) was the 57th Doge and was buried in the Basilica of San Giovanni e Paolo, the traditional burial place of the Doges. His funerary monument can still be seen today and features the coat of arms of the noble Dolfin family, the three dolphins swimming as on the stone here.
