Colored lithograph on the lid, showing the passage of a regiment of infantrymen through a French village, to the enthusiastic looks of the population and the cheers of the pupils of the local boys' school. The box contains three puzzle boards, format 27 x 37.5 cm. Each board, lithographed in color and mounted on wood, presents nine scenes of military life, making a total of twenty-seven scenes: from the fateful drawing of lots to the departure of the class. An interesting panorama of military life for young Frenchmen after the defeat of 1870, when preparations had to be made for the Revenge and barrack life was an important part of men's lives.
