Vase-portrait of a feline head. Brown ceramic with brown and white slip. Height: 13 cm Neck diameter: 7.5 cm Mochica culture, ca. 300-600 A.D. Peru. (an interior chip on the neck) 2 inventory numbers. Expressive feline head with outstretched tongue and oversized fangs. The mouth, probably that of a jaguar, is set on a white slip base. This type of ceramic may be related to the portrait vases well known in Mochica culture. Our piece is interesting and, without being isolated, is quite rare in the corpus of animal portrait vases. 12.5x15x14 cm
