Rolex, Submariner, Ref. 1680, no. 586xxxx, circa 1979. A beautiful steel diver's watch, graduated rotating bezel, black "Swiss t<25" dial, luminous circled hands and hour markers with a slight patina, central second hand, date at 3 o'clock. Screw-down caseback and crown, self-winding mechanical movement. Steel Oyster bracelet with folding clasp. It's rare to find a 1680 in such fine condition. With its chamfers still clearly visible, our watch is in excellent overall working condition, the dial flawless, with a later "luminous" pastille on the insert. Reference 1680, produced some ten years between 1970 and 1980, is the first Submariner with a date function. For the first time on a Submariner, a cyclops lens is glued to the outside of the acrylic glass to facilitate date reading. The charm of the dial's "painted" hour-markers contributes fully to this reference's aura among vintage enthusiasts.
