Journal des Dames et des Modes. Complete collection of 79 issues in ff. under issue covers, housed in 4 slipcases (modern folders and cases). Paris, Aux bureaux du Journal des dames, 1912-1914. Complete series of this sumptuous periodical founded by Tommaso Antongini, secretary to Gabriele d'Annunzio, and journalist Jacques de Nouvion, offering a sumptuous panorama of French fashion, with first-edition texts by Anatole France, Henri Lavedan, Maurice Donnay, Robert de Montesquiou, Fernand Vandérem, the Countess de Noailles, Jean Cocteau, Henri Barbusse and others. The illustrations, also very complete, consist of 186 plates (ch. 1-184 + 2 non ch. plates "Le Choix difficile" by Ch. Martin and "La Folie du Jour" by G. Barbier) finely engraved and richly stencilled by BARBIER, MARTIN, BRUNELLESCHI, WEGENER, BAKST, BOUTET DE MONVEL, DRIAN, Van Brock, Broders, Gose, Lemaire, Lhuer, etc. Le Journal des Dames et des Modes was a luxury magazine for an exclusive clientele, published from June 1, 1912 to August 1, 1914, and thus interrupted by the war. Only 1279 copies were printed. This is one of 1250 on Hollande paper (n°1269 for issues 1 to 36, n°1192 for issues 37 to 50, n°985 for the 51st, n°1192 for issues 52 to 72, n°760 for issues 73 to 79). Also complete with all supplements/advertisements in ff. (4 pp. for each no.) separately under their original delivery covers. (Colas, 1567; Hiller, p.486). A very good, complete set of the finest fashion magazine of the Art Deco period, with a much more limited circulation than the Gazette du Bon Ton. The delicate, elegant illustrations by the artists are enhanced by the quality of the engraving and the subtle, vibrant colors.
