Louis-Henri NICOT (Rennes, 1878 - Paris, 1944) in collaboration with Marcel GUILLARD's workshop "The Beggar Rare subject in powdered green enameled stoneware signed on the terrace and signed under the base. Height: 23.5 cm. Width: 29 cm (hair under the base). Our work is an edition of the model presented by Louis-Henri Nicot at the exhibition "Grès, Faïences, Terres cuites et leurs applications", organized by the Musée Galliera in September 1911. This event marked the beginning of the success of his earthenware. Between 1911 and 1940, the artist had his work published in several workshops in the Paris region, including the Atelier Chabrier for "Le Mendiant". Our copy comes from Marcel Guillard's workshop in Asnières, and as such is an original and unreferenced example of Nicot's work. Thanks to the invaluable information provided by Louis-Henri Nicot, the artist's grandson, we can date it between 1929 and 1940. We thank him warmly for this. The second special feature of our piece is its powdered green enamel, which is still unknown. The one in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Paris is cream, while the one reproduced in the book "Louis-Henri Nicot, sculpteur breton", exhibited at the Musée de la Faïence de Quimper in 2005, is yellow.
