Franz von Stück was one of the leading figures of the Munich Secession, he represented many times throughout his career, his only daughter his career, his only daughter Mary Franziska Anna, whom he Anna Maria Brandmaier shortly before his marriage to marriage to Mary Lindpaintner. The portrait's lack of decoration and frontal approach gives the portrait a radical, modern quality that which stands in stark contrast to the representation of this young girl, characteristic of the Secession.
