The first, siyah mashq exercise in Persian, multidirectional words in nasta'liq shekaste, signed Muhammad Hussein Tabâtabâi Nâinî, and dated (date incomplete). Mounted on an album page with colored borders, one decorated with a frieze of orange foliage on a pink background. Dim. calligraphy: 21.4 x 16.7 cm, dim. album page: 39.4 x 29.9 cm, folds, wear, stains, minor restorations; the second, poem from Sa'adi's Bustan calligraphed in nasta'liq shekaste, Persian verses spread over two columns, some elements in red ink.
