Archives of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. A RARE WORK BY FRANÇOIS-DÉSIRÉ FROMENT-MEURICE Romanticism combined with neo-Gothic style With great skill, this bracelet blends the most exaggerated romanticism, presenting the recipient with three small eggs in the form of pearls, probably a gift for a new-born baby. The wristband is decorated with arabesques symbolizing fidelity, freely inspired by the most refined Gothic style. When I came across an identical ivy-leaf bracelet by the same artist in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum ivy leaves, I was, as you will be, surprised by the modest prices charged to customers by this designer. The Museum's small bracelet was paid for by the Museum itself at the London World's Fair in 1851 at a cost of 18 pounds sterling. Today, we offer a "modern" work from 1851, which has become a major collector's item.
