A POLYCHROME-PAINTED MOULDED QAJAR POTTERY VASE WITH VILLAGE SCENES Qajar Iran, late 19th century Of curved cylindrical shape, resting on a slightly-raised circular foot, rising to rounded, sloping shoulders and flared neck with everted rim, painted in polychromes including manganese pink, antimony yellow and light blue with black outlines on a white ground, the body decorated with two large rectangular cartouches contained within a geometric snail-curl fretwork frame, featuring a rural woman grilling a piece of meat for her son standing in front of her with a bucket of water over his head, surrounded by animals and vegetation, in the background a donkey feeding and several village tents, the neck embellished with the Qajar dynastic Shir-o-Khorshid (Lion and Sun) emblem repeated twice, with Chinese-style lions as handles on the sides, the overall palette and shape reminiscent of 19th-century Qing famille rose vases, but the decorative repertoire, subjects and moulded technique truly Iranian in style, 35cm high.
