A LARGE SAMANID SARI-WARE SLIP-PAINTED POTTERY BOWL WITH BIRD MOTIF North East Iran, 10th - 11th century Of typical deep conical shape, resting on a short circular foot, the white slip-covered earthenware body painted in various tones ranging from orange to red and maroon, black, and light green often enhanced with white speckles, the interior featuring a large bird design in the centre, and a band of fleshy double palmettes framing drop-shaped buds in-filled with fish-scale motif alternating clusters of three dotted roundels all around the cavetto, a black and white beaded band running around the rim, the exterior plain, 37cm diam.
